A dental treatment system is disclosed. The system comprising a reader； and a dental treatment apparatus comprising a memory device, which comprises a communications chip, the memory device configured to communicate information about at least one of a treatment procedure and the dental treatment apparatus to the reader. The memory device is configured to store identifying information related to the dental treatment apparatus and to identify the dental treatment apparatus as authorized for use with the system. The reader is configured to read the identifying information from the memory device and to determine whether the dental treatment apparatus is an authorized dental treatment apparatus.
