The invention relates to a use of a banana flower extract for manufacturing compositions for anti-oxidation and inhibition of tyrosinase activity by applying an effective does of the banana flower extract to skin. The banana flower extract can be used to slow down skin cell DNA damage caused by UV, scavenge free radicals, chelate ferrous ions and inhibit tyrosinase activity.
