A biostatic coating comprising a coating composition which on drying produces an intrinsically hydrophobic film. The coating composition includes a biocidal complex A-B in which A is a phenolic biocide and B is selected from polyvinylpyrrolidone ("PVP"), PVP polymers, PVP copolymers and mixtures thereof. The coating composition for example is selected from acrylic and methacrylic polymer based compositions, acrylic and methacrylic copolymer based compositions, vinyl polymer based compositions, vinyl copolymer based compositions, epoxy resins, epoxy esters, and mixtures thereof. Suitable biocides for use in the invention include, but are not limited to complexes of PVP or PVP copolymer with triclosan； diclosan； dichlorophen； orthophenylphenol； orthobenzylparachlorophenol, cresols, xylols, and substituted diphenyl ethers.본 발명은 건조시 고유한 소수성 필름을 생산하는 코팅 조성물을 포함하는 생물정력학적(biostatic) 코팅물에 관한 것이다. 상기 코팅 조성물은 살생물성 착물 A-B를 포함하고, 이때 A는 페놀성 살생물제이고, B는 폴리비닐피롤리돈("PVP"), PVP 중합체, PVP 공중합체 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 군에서 선택된다. 상기 코팅 조성물은, 예를 들어 아크릴계 및 메타크릴계 중합체 기재 조성물, 아크릴계 및 메타크릴계 공중합체 기재 조성물, 비닐 중합체 기재 조성물, 비닐 공중합체 기재 조성물, 에폭시 수지, 에폭시 에스테르 및 이들의 혼합물로부터 선택된다. 본 발명에 사용하기에 적합한 살생물제는 트리클로산, 디클로산, 디클로로펜, 오르토페닐페놀, 오르토벤질파라클로로페놀, 크레졸, 크실올 및 치환 디페닐 에테르와의 PVP 또는 PVP 공중합체의 착물을 포함하지만, 이로 제한되지 않는다.
