A soil treating system and shearing assemblies (10) for use in forestry operations is disclosed. Embodiments of soil treating systems according to the disclosure include a movement assembly, such as a tractor (12), with a shearing assembly (22) mounted on its the front end. A levelling assembly (24) is mounted on the back end of the movement assembly. In some embodiments shearing assemblies are inverted V-type shearing assemblies. Further aspects of the disclosure are directed towards methods for using soil treating systems and shearing assemblies for preparing land for inter-planting an energy crop with a primary crop.
