A neck extension device that positions a subjects chin away from the subjects upper chest lengthens the frontal area of the subjects neck and facilitates unobstructed breathing by opening the airway. According to some embodiments, the neck extension device includes a first surface and a second surface, where the first surface is configured to contact an area of the subjects head (e.g., the subjects mandible) and the second surface is configured to contact an area of subjects upper chest. The neck extension device may comprise a body member, which includes the first surface and the second surface on generally opposing sides. According to some embodiments, the neck extension device is configured to removably attach to the subjects neck.
