PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a functional organic material by bearing antifungal matter- productive fungi on a carrier as a mixed compost prepared by compounding phytocompost and zoocompost together, in order to inhibit plant disease injury by biological control. SOLUTION: The functional organic material is a functional compost that is produced by preparing a mixed compost by compounding together the phytocompost with woody wastes as the main material and the zoocompost with fishery processing wastes as the main material and then bearing the above mixed compost as the carrier with at least one kind of antifungal matter- productive fungi belonging to the genus Burkholderia and having antifungal activity on plant pathogenic fungi, wherein the antifungal matter-productive fungi is e.g. Burkholderia cepacia. This functional organic material thus obtained can inhibit spinach stock rot.
