Light emitted in correspondence to ionizing radiation incident from scintillator (10) is fed through optical fiber (12) to electron-multiplier tube (14) by which it is converted to an electrical signal. The electrical signal is amplified by signal amplifying circuit (16), and any light emission events of given or higher intensity are discriminated by discriminator (18) and counted by a counter. The count value is fed to computer (22). The computer (22) converts the count value to a dosage on the basis of an exponential relationship lying between light emission intensity and number of light emission events, thereby attaining detection of the dosage.
