A method of treating cancer, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a composition containing a compound of formula (Ia) wherein R, R, R, R and R, independently from each other, are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy- , amino, nitro, iodo, bromo, fluoro, chloro (C-C) alkyl, (C-C) alkoxy, (C-C) cycloalkyl and phenyl, with at least two of the five radicals R, R, R, R, and R substituents are always hydrogen, at least one of the five substituents is a nitro group, at least one of the substituents, PARTICULAR to the nitro group is an iodo; as well as its pharmaceutically available salts, solvates, isomers, tautomers, metabolites, analogues or prodrugs; the method is intended for the treatment of such cancers as ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, pancreatic cancer, gall bladder cancer, tissue cancer eyes, central nervous system cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid cancer, and lung cancer. 2.
