A medical connector comprising a housing with a central axis and an internal cavity. The internal cavity of the housing comprises a passage connecting a first region and a second region and a rigid valve member configured to be advanced towards and away from the second region along the central axis of the housing, the rigid valve member comprising an internal passageway and a fluid chamber at one end of the valve member. The fluid chamber has a closed tip and a hole adjacent the closed tip. The medical connector has a first position in which at least a portion of the fluid chamber comprising the hole is positioned in the passage and fluid flow between the internal passageway and the first region is impeded. The medical connector also has a second position in which the rigid valve member is advanced towards the first region and fluid communication between the interior of the medical connector and the first region via the hole is enabled.
