PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer which has a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, presents a smaller profile in the collapsed configuration for facilitating minimally invasive implantation of the spacer, and keeps separation between adjacent spinous processes.SOLUTION: The interspinous spacer 10 comprises a blocking member 15 and arms 11, 12, 13, 14. When the spacer 10 is in an extended (expanded) shape, the shape resembles "H" wherein the arms 11, 12, 13, 14 are leg parts of "H" and the blocking member 15 is the crossbar. In order to use the spacer 10, the arms are manipulated so as to be in parallel with the blocking member and the spacer 10 is manipulated into its collapsed (implantable) shape.
