The invention concerns the use of plasminogen or a biologically active variant thereof for the preparation of a medicament for local administration of at least one dose of plasminogen or a biologically active variant thereof for promoting the healing of a wound in a subject. The dose is between about 2 mg and about 30 mg. The frequency of the administration may vary from once a day to once a week.
