Die Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung von Alduronsäuren und Dialdehyden der Aldosen und deren Derivate als Bräunungsverstärker für Dihydroxyaceton oder für eine Mischung von Selbstbräunungssubstanzen enthaltend Dihydroxyaceton oder als Selbstbräunungssubstanz. Die Erfindung betrifft weiterhin deren Verwendung zur Modulation des Farbtones, der bei der Bräunung mit Dihydroxyaceton oder durch die Mischung oder Zubereitung enthaltend Dihydroxyaceton erzielt wird. Die Erfindung betrifft weiterhin deren Verwendung in einer Mischung oder Zubereitung enthaltend mindestens Dihydroxyaceton als Selbstbräunungssubstanz als Kontrastreduktionsmittel.
