According to the invention, the non-volatile memory (23) contains identification data in relation to the associated medical instrument and usage data in relation to the imaging apparatus, sent by the control unit (20), upon each connection and in that the control unit (20) authorizes the operation of the imaging apparatus (11) only if the user has identified himself and has given the authorization.
