PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire capable of securely preventing a medical instrument such as a catheter to be combined with a guide wire from being caught in a turned part when the part on a proximal end side of a distal end member is turned.SOLUTION: A guide wire 1 includes: an elongated wire body 2 with flexibility； a distal end member 6 covering a distal end part of the wire body 2 and made of a resin material； and a hydrophilic lubricating layer 10 formed to cover a proximal end 63 of the distal end member 6 and made of a hydrophilic material. The hydrophilic lubricating layer 10 is tapered in such a way that the outer diameter becomes gradually smaller toward the proximal end side.
