In particular, methods for commercial scale production under an inert atmosphere of a transdermal formulation comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a hormone, preferably a testosterone compound, useful for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in postmenopausal women are provided.
