The present invention relates to a composition comprising a combined extract of Zizyphi Semen and Poria cocos for treating and preventing anxiety or insomnia. More particularly, the combined extract of the present invention shows a significant effect of extending sleeping through the combination of Zizyphi Semen with Poria cocos, which cannot be shown by an extract or Zizyphi Semen or Poria cocos alone, as determined by the following tests: a test (Test example 1) for determining the effect upon pentobarbital sodium-induced sleeping using ICR male rats an open field test (Test example 2) using ICR male rats and a test for determining the effect upon motor activity in a rotating rod. Thus, it is possible to obtain a synergic effect of treating insomnia which cannot be expected by those skilled in the art.
