PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide pharmaceutical compositions containing a prophylactic or therapeutic agent effective to various cardiovascular diseases or disorders in mammals (particularly humans), such as viral myocarditis, and dilated (congestive) cardiomyopathy, cardiotoxicity of a prophylactic or therapeutic agent [e.g. Adriamycin (ADM)], or myocardial contraction.SOLUTION: The invention provides a pharmaceutical composition combined with prophylactic or therapeutic agents containing an effective amount of neuregulin protein or a functional fragment thereof, a nucleic acid encoding a neuregulin protein or a functional fragment thereof, a drug enhancing a production and/or function of the neuregulin, or a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for viral myocarditis or dilated (congestive) cardiomyopathy (DCM).
