Closed loop heat exchange catheters having bidirectional flow heat exchange regions, and methods for making and using them. The heat exchange region is formed from an expandable or non-expandable tubular conduit configured in a series of loops or coils that define a supply flow path and a return flow path through which the heat exchange medium circulates. The individual loops of the coiled spiral are the same size or different sizes.
