PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for lowing the tinting property of ortho-phthalaldehyde (abbreviated as OPA) and a sterilization composition containing OPA and exhibiting excellent sterilizing antiseptic effect even in an environment containing a reducing substance.SOLUTION: The sterilization composition contains OPA and an aldehyde compound selected from glyoxylic acid, its salt and methylglyoxal. The method for lowering the tinting property of OPA comprises the addition of the aldehyde compound to OPA. The invention expands the application field of OPA and enables the safe use of OPA.
