Disclosed is the use of cells for treating a brain injury in a subject, wherein said cells are multipotent adult progenitor cells, wherein said multipotent adult progenitor cells are not embryonic stem cells, not embryonic germ cells, and not germ cells, have undergone at least 40 cell doublings in culture prior to their use, are allogeneic or xenogeneic to the subject； and wherein no immunosuppressant is used adjunctively to said cells. The brain injury may be a brain injury caused by hypoxia.
