The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory disease, containing a toluhydroquinone compound as an active ingredient. In a cellular experiment, toluhydroquinone of the present invention decreases the production of inflammatory cytokines associated with induction of inflammation such as nitrogen monoxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and interleukin (IL)-1&beta； and IL-6. In addition, toluhydroquinone also suppresses the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) proteins, while increasing the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) protein which is one of anti-inflammatory factors. Therefore, toluhydroquinone of the present invention can be used as an agent for treating or preventing inflammatory disease, a functional cosmetic product for preventing or ameliorating inflammation disease, or a food therefor.본 발명은 톨루하이드로퀴논(toluhydroquinone) 화합물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 염증 질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 톨루하이드로퀴논은 세포 실험에서 염증 유발과 관련된 NO(일산화질소), PGE2 및 TNF-α, IL-1β 및 IL-6 등의 염증성 사이토카인의 생성을 감소시키고, iNOS 및 COX-2 단백질의 발현을 억제하며, 항염증 인자인 HO-1 단백질의 발현을 증가시키는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 발명의 톨루하이드로퀴논은 염증 질환의 예방 또는 치료제, 염증 질환의 예방 또는 개선을 위한 기능성 화장품 또는 식품으로 사용될 수 있다.
