Described herein is an optotype tracking system having an image display configured to display an image of a surgical field to a user. The image display is configured to emit light in the first wavelength range. The system further includes a right eye tracking device configured to emit light in the second wavelength range and to measure data relating to the first gaze point of the user's right eye. The system further comprises a left eye tracking device configured to emit light in the second wavelength range and to measure data relating to a second gaze point of the user's left eye. The system further includes an optical assembly disposed between the image display and the user's right and left eyes. The optical assembly includes the first and second wavelengths sharing at least part of the left optical path between the left eye and the image display and the right eye and the image without the right eye tracking device and the left eye tracking device being visible to the user. It is configured to direct light in the first and second wavelength ranges so as to share at least part of the right optical path to the display. The system is further configured to process data relating to the first gaze point and the second gaze point to determine a viewpoint in the displayed image to which the user's gaze point is directed.
