A method of preserving wood is provided. The method comprises the step of contacting the wood with an aqueous composition comprising(a) a wax having melting point higher than 75° C. and an average particle size no greater than 1 micron,(b) greater than 0.08% by weight, based on the weight of said aqueous composition, a nonionic surfactant having the formulaR—OCH2CH2OxH wherein said R is an aliphatic group having 10 to 16 carbon atoms； wherein the average value of x is 4.5 to 5.5, and(c) one or more organic wood preservative.
