A device (10) for accurately guiding and positioning a surgical instrument bearing suture material to a predetermined area within the body for closing an open wound includes an elongated conically shaped guide (12) that is wider at the top and which has two openings in the side wall thereof. The top has two openings (26, 28) that communicate with the openings (30, 32) in the side wall (14) through generally linear passageways (34, 36) that pass through the guide and which allow surgical instruments carrying suture material to pass therethrough. A thin elongated rod (38) extends upwardly from the top wall approximately two inches and includes a handle (40) at the top thereof. Raising the handle above the guide increases the field of view of the surgeon.Linvention concerne un dispositif (10) permettant de guider et de positionner avec précision un instrument chirurgical portant un matériau de suture au niveau dune zone prédéterminée à lintérieur de lorganisme dun patient pour fermer une plaie ouverte, ledit dispositif comprenant un guide allongé de forme conique (12) qui est plus large au niveau de sa partie supérieure et qui comporte deux ouvertures dans sa paroi latérale. La partie supérieure du guide comporte deux ouvertures (26, 28) qui communiquent avec les ouvertures (30, 32) dans la paroi latérale (14) par des passages généralement linéaires (34, 36) qui traversent le guide et permettent le passage dinstruments chirurgicaux portant le matériau de suture. Une mince tige allongée (38) sétend vers le haut à partir de la paroi supérieure du guide sur environ deux pouces et se termine par une poignée (40). Le fait de relever la poignée au-dessus du guide augmente le champ de vision du chirurgien.
