An open-mouthed, self-tapping growing container (1) and method for the farming of burrowing clams is disclosed. The container (1) is screwed in to the sediment via a thread (4). In particular Panopea generosa and Panopea zelandica Geoducks may be planted as seeds in the self-tapping containers to protect them from predation in an inter-tidal or benthic aquaculture operation.
