The present invention provides a single surgical method, procedure and/orsystem that createsopen visual and physical access to an identified spinal treatment site thatcomprises both targetedvertebral and spinal levels to be treated, wherein the spinal levels compriseat least one dorsalroot ganglion. A spinal treatment procedure is performed generally incombination withimplantation of a neuromodulation system that may comprise placement ofelectrical lead(s) onthe at least one dorsal root ganglion, wherein each lead is in operativeconnection with a pulsegenerator that may also be implanted during the surgical method. Electricalstimulation may begenerated with the pulse generator through the electrical leads to the atleast one dorsal rootganglion during and/or after the closure of the identified spinal treatmentsite.
