A fiber-reinforced device, such as an inflatable medical balloon, includes a cylindrical central portion. The balloon includes first and second tapered portions connected to the cylindrical central portion along a central longitudinal axis extending from a first end of the balloon to a second end of the balloon. In one embodiment, the balloon includes a single continuous fiber running substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis along the central portion, and having a plurality of turnaround points in each of the first and second tapered portions. The single continuous fiber does not extend along or around a reduced diameter portion, or neck, connected to each of the tapered portions, and thus may remain continuous even after the necks are trimmed away to connect the fiber-reinforced balloon to a catheter shaft.
