A method of harvesting a row of small trees, which includes the steps at which: - advance at least one rotating auger and a guide element spaced from it horizontally, forming an entrance passage of the harvesting head, to grasp the trunks and (or) foliage of trees in the row ； - cut the stems of trees with the base cutter of the harvesting head； - transport the trees, held in a substantially vertical position by said or each rotating auger and horizontally spaced from it by a guide element, to a location above a rotating chopping or crushing drum to be gripped by at least one pair of pressure rollers ； and - feeding the trees down into the rotating chipping or crushing drum with said or each pair of pressure rollers, keeping the trees in a substantially vertical position. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein: the lower ends of the cut stems are supported with an upwardly inclined surface after the stems are cut and until the stems are gripped by said or each pair of pressure rollers. The method according to claim 1, in which: said or each guide element is a guide rod or bar or a counter-rotating auger having an upwardly biased longitudinal axis or an axis of rotation parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotating auger and acting to transport trees in an upwardly rearward direction path with a linear speed greater than the speed of advance of the harvesting head. 4. The method according to claim 1, in which: - the trees are fed backward with respect to the chipping or crushing drum, keeping them in a substantially vertical position. Harvesting1.
