PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress retrieval variation due to the variation of region extraction, in similar case image retrieval using the result of region extraction.

SOLUTION: There are provided: a calculation pattern A for calculating similarity between a single region under consideration extracted from a query image and the regions under consideration of the case images of a plurality of patterns registered in an image information DB4 a calculation pattern B for calculating similarity between a plurality of regions under consideration extracted from the query image and the corrected region under consideration (single or plural) of a case image registered in the image information DB4 a calculation pattern C for calculating similarity between each of the regions under consideration of the plurality of patterns extracted from the query image and each of the regions under consideration of the case image of the plurality of patterns registered in the image information DB4 and a pattern D for calculating similarity between the mutual averages of featured values. Out of these pattern, the similarity is calculated with the pattern suitable for the number of extraction of the regions under consideration from the both query image and the case image so that a similar case image is specified.
