A gastrostomy device (11) comprising a delivery means such as a tube (13) for deliveringfood, medicines and other fluids to a patient's stomach (30). The deliverymeans has a first portion (17) which is received in the patient, the first portion(17) having a maximum cross section substantially equal to or smaller than theaperture in the patient through which the first portion (17) enters and exitsso that the delivery means can be removed from the patient with minimal injurythereto. Preferably the tube (13) enters the patient through a first aperture(31) in the patient, passes through the stomach (30) and exits the patient througha second aperture (29). The device also comprises a retaining means (19) to retainthe tube (13) in a desired position.
