A method of cutting material from a web in a manufacturing method of an absorbent article, the cutting method comprising the steps of: - feeding the web and holding it relative to the abutment surface； - holding the material to be cut off in a raised position from the abutment surface when material held relative to the surface； - cut the raised material from the canvas with a knife blade that is spaced from the supporting surface. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the material to be cut is part of an elastic layer attached to the web. The method according to claim 1, wherein the knife blade extends beyond the raised material in the thickness direction of the raised material to the abutment surface, and is spaced apart from the abutment surface. The method of claim 1, wherein the lifting member is used to hold the material raised above the abutment surface so that the knife blade cuts the raised material when it is placed above the lifting member. The method of claim 4, wherein the raised material is held tensioned near the lifting member so that the blade of the knife cuts the tensioned raised material. The method according to claim 1, wherein the web is fed in a machine direction by correspondingly moving the abutment surface in a machine direction.
