A method of reducing leukocyte invasion of central nervous system tissue, comprising administering to a mammal in need of such treatment a composition comprising a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1R) in an amount effective to activate GLP-1R, thereby reducing leukocyte invasion tissue of the central nervous system. 2.
