The first end of the housing has a connector configured to be secured to a syringe barrel. The adapter also includes a cannula positioned within the housing and a seal arrangement including a membrane or septum positioned within the housing and movable within the housing, the seal arrangement comprising a membrane. The assembly can also include a protective cap having a first open end and a second closed end.
