Large scale tissue culture of plants to rpoduce tubers, corms, rhizomes or tuberculate roots, is carried out by culture of a plant or sliced portions (largest dimension below 10cm) in a liquid medium until the length of the plant culture is 15-30cm; submerging at least 90% of the plant in the liquid medium, and gradually reducing the amount of the medium with time until 50-98% of the plant is exposed to the air.
