Scar reduction apparatus (10)comprises a biocompatible scar interface layer (12), a compressible pressure chamber (14)overlying the scar interface layer (12), and an at least substantially uniformly compressible pressure element (16)in the pressure chamber (14)which extends over the scar interface layer (12). The pressure element (16)has a bulk modulus enabling a predetermined uniform or substantially uniform compression of the pressure element (16)in at least a direction perpendicular or substantially perpendicular tothe scar interface layer (12)on application of a specific pressure. Evacuation means(18)is also provided for at least partially evacuating the pressure chamber (14), whereby the pressure element (16)is uniformly or substantially uniformly compressed in the direction of the scar interface layer (12)and the pressure chamber (14)positively urges the compressed pressure element (16)towards the scar interface layer (12). A non-invasive connector (20)is also utilised and which is spaced from a central region (58)of the scar interface layer (12). The non-invasive connector (20)is at or adjacent to a perimeter of the scar interface layer (12)for holding the scar interface layer (12)in position over a users scar. The application of a known specific positive pressure to the scar tissue site, by evacuation by a predetermined amount, enables specific and targeted treatment of hypertrophic and/or keloidal scar tissue (28).
