A liquid detergent including: 3% by mass or more of an α-sulfo fatty acid alkyl ester salt (a) represented by the general formula (I)； 5% by mass or more of at least one type of surfactant (b) selected from sulfonic acid-type anionic surfactants, sulfuric acid ester-type anionic surfactants and nonionic surfactants other than the component (a)； and a water-soluble magnesium salt (c),wherein the total content of the component (a) and the component (b) is from 8 to 35% by mass, the content of the component (a) is 50% by mass or less with respect to the total mass of the surfactant, and a mass ratio represented by the formula: (the component (c)) / (the component (a)) is from 0.1 to 1.5, R1-CH(SO3M)-COOR2 (I)wherein R1 is a hydrocarbon group having 14 to 16 carbon atoms, R2 is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and M is a counter ion.
