The present invention consists in a method for obtaining extracts from Baccharis glutinosa plant with antifungal activity, which consist in a fraction of ethyl acetate from the plant and an active fraction with a higher purity degree, which have shown to have the capacity to hydrolyze the chitin and inhibit the enzyme ß-1,3-glucanase in Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium verticillioides fungi, where said enzyme forms part of a chain of metabolic reactions, which once inhibited it has a fatal effect over the fungus organisms. Maize is a plant highly affected by these fungi, originating enormous economic and production losses either in cultivation and storage, thus awakening a great concern, since this cereal and derived byproducts, constitute the basis of the diet of many countries. Fungicides are used for preventing and counteracting the effects caused by fungi however, the increase in the fungi resistance has produced a constant need in the identification of new fungicides acting again st them.
