PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image management system capable of performing efficient storage management of a medical image in accordance with operation policy or operation conditions of a hospital, and further to provide a medical image management method.SOLUTION: A medical image management system comprises: a selection condition setting section 4d setting selection conditions for selecting a storage destination of medical image data in accordance with operation policy or operation conditions of medical treatment facilities； a storage destination selection section 4e selecting the storage destination from a plurality of storage devices including an external storage device outside the medical treatment facilities and an internal storage device inside the medical treatment facilities by using the selection conditions set by the selection condition setting section 4d； and a storage destination management section 4f functioning as a storage execution section storing the medical image data in the storage device of the storage destination selected by the storage destination selection section 4e.
