A sterilizing apparatus for sterilizing a subject includes a semiconductor light emitting device that emits light to be irradiated onto a subject, and a variable voltage generator that generates a variable voltage applied to the semiconductor light emitting device. The semiconductor light emitting device may emit light having a maximum intensity at a wavelength of 280 nm or less. The variable voltage may have a frequency of 100 Hz or less and a predetermined period. The predetermined period of the variable voltage may include an inoperation time for applying a voltage smaller than the driving voltage of the semiconductor light emitting device and an operation time for applying a voltage greater than the driving voltage of the semiconductor light emitting device. The duty ratio of the non-operation time and the operation time may be 20% to 80%.피사체를 살균시키기 위한 살균 장치는 피사체에 조사될 광을 방출시키는 반도체 발광 소자와, 반도체 발광 소자에 인가되는 가변 전압을 생성하는 가변 전압 생성부를 포함한다.반도체 발광 소자는 280nm 이하의 파장에서 최대 세기를 갖는 광을 방출할 수 있다.가변 전압은 100Hz 이하의 주파수 및 소정 주기를 가질 수 있다. 가변 전압의 소정 주기는 반도체 발광 소자의 구동 전압보다 작은 전압이 인가되는 비동작 시간과 반도체 발광 소자의 구동 전압보다 큰 전압이 인가되는 동작 시간을 포함할 수 있다. 비동작 시간과 동작 시간의 듀티비는 20% 내지 80%일 수 있다.
