The nebulizer (1) has a cup (5) containing liquid, and a vibrating member (4) i.e. piezo-ceramic component, emitting an ultrasonic beam under effect of control signal from an electronic control circuit (10) to transform the liquid into mist. A detection unit (14) detects presence and/or absence of sound signal issued from the vibrating member and/or determines a value of the sound signal or a signal corresponding to the sound signal issued from the member. The detection unit has a filter to deliver filtered signal corresponding to the sound signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a nebulizer.
