The present invention relates to delayed release oral formulations comprisingactive ingredients and modified proteins used as excipients. The proteins havechemicalmodifications such as succinylation, deamination, glutarylation orphosphorylation whichdecrease the isoelectric point of the protein compared to the protein's nativeisoelectricpoint and enhance protein-protein interactions, thereby reducing solubilityand swelling,and delaying release of the active ingredient when the formulation is ingestedorally.Particularly, the invention relates to tablets that comprise an excipient ofchemically-modified food proteins such as soy proteins or p-lactoglobulin useful fordelaying releaseof an active ingredient such as a pharmaceutical drug or a probiotic.
