A stent 30.1 for a prosthetic heart valve is provided. The stent supports a tricuspid valve having three leaflets (see figure 2) and is introduced into a patients body through minimally invasive procedure. The stent 30.1 comprises a ring-like body defining in its height three arch-shaped elements 120, wherein each arch-shaped element 120 has an arc 122 and a pair of haunches 126 forming three commissural posts. The arch-shape of the elements 120 provides an attachment zone for the valve leaflets and is defined by a plane, cylinder or cone intersecting a cylinder or cone at an angle. Reinforcing members 119 are provided on the stent which act to strengthen the stent and support the valve leaflets during opening and closing and to secure the stent within a valve annulus. The reinforcing members span between adjacent arch elements and/or connect between adjacent commissural posts.
