In one embodiment, a leaflet capture device for improving the coaptation of heart valve leaflets is provided. The leaflet capture device can include a first clip portion having inner and outer portions. The inner and outer portions can be configured to compress tissue of a first heart valve leaflet therebetween to secure the first clip portion to the first leaflet. The leaflet capture device can further include a second clip portion having inner and outer portions. The inner and outer portions can be configured to compress tissue of a second heart valve leaflet therebetween to secure the second clip portion to the second leaflet. The first and second clip portions can be separately deployable onto the first and second leaflets and secured to one another in vivo to bring portions of the first and second leaflets into closer proximity to each other, thereby improving coaptation of the first and second leaflets.
