A beverage preparation apparatus includes a coffee link chamber for receiving coffee grounds and water, a coffee receiving chamber for receiving prepared coffee, the heating source operative check heat for coffee brewing chamber, at least one biasing element formed of a shape memory materials, and at least one piston element couples to the biasing element, whereby when the coffee brewing chamber reaches a transition temperature of the shape memory material, a biasing element deforms, releasing a spring force urging the piston element into the coffee brewing chamber to decrease the volume and increase the pressure within the coffee brewing chamber, and forcing heated water through the coffee grounds through a filter and into a coffee collection container situated in the coffee receiving chamber.
