An assembly tool (10) for assembly of a first component (24) of a prosthesis (23) to a second component (26) of the prosthesis for use in joint arthroplasty. The tool includes a first member (12) operably associated with the first component and defines a first member longitudinal axis (20) thereof. A second member (14) is operably associated with the second component and defines a second member longitudinal axis (22) thereof. A washer system (16) is coupled to the second member. A drive mechanism (18) is coupled to washer system, such that as the drive mechanism is activated, the washer system rotates about the second member longitudinal axis and expands along the second member longitudinal axis, in which such movement further causes the second member to move relative to the first member along the second member longitudinal axis. The washer system comprises a first spiral washer (40) coupled to the handle, and a second spiral washer (42) coupled to the second member and the first spiral washer. As the handle is rotated, the first spiral washer rotates relative to the second spiral washer and moves along the second member longitudinal axis relative to the second spiral washer.
