A sharps container (10) for safe reception and storageof used pen needles, pen needle assemblies, syringe needles, syringeneedle covers, and combinations thereof comprises a substantiallynon-porous housing which includes a means for receiving said penneedles, pen needle assemblies, syringe needles, syringe needle covers,and combinations thereof in an internal storage compartment sizedto facilitate the safe storage of a plurality of used pen needles orsyringe needles and optional needle covers. The internal storagecompartment may include a material capable of absorbing and storingfluids which may incidentally be associated with the used pen needles orsyringe needles. The means for receiving pen needles, pen needleassemblies, syringe needles, syringe needle covers, and combinationsthereof is visually distinguished from the surrounding portions of thehousing and conveys the pen needles, pen needle assemblies, syringeneedles, syringe needle covers, and combinations thereof from theexterior of the container to the internal storage compartment.
