The present invention is directed to a hemostatic materialcomprising a compacted, hemostatic aggregates of cellulosic fibers. In someaspects, the hemostatic material further includes additives, such ascarboxymethylcellulose (CMC) or other polysaccharides, calcium salts, anti-infectiveagents, hemostasis promoting agents, gelatin, collagen, or combinationsthereof. In another aspect, the present invention is directed to a method ofmaking the hemostatic materials described above by compacting a cellulosic-basedmaterial into hemostatic aggregates. In another aspect, the present inventionis directed to a method of treating a wound by applying hemostaticmaterials described above onto and/or into the wound of a patient.
