PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet ray absorbent which can not only improve the ultraviolet ray durability of a polymer material to be used together therewith but also restrain the decomposition of other unstable compounds by using the polymer material as an ultraviolet filter and which is so rigid that the ability to absorb the ultraviolet ray having a long wavelength is kept for a long period of time.
SOLUTION: The ultraviolet ray absorbent has &le10,000 molecular weight and &ge8,000 molar extinction coefficient at the maximum absorption wavelength and consists of the compound shown by general formula (I) (wherein R
