PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent composition capable of quickly absorbing an aqueous liquid even if a large quantity of aqueous the liquid is added at once and maintaining extremely high liquid dispersibility at any time and having excellent absorption characteristics such as the property of keeping a high absorption capacity per unit weight. SOLUTION: This absorption composition contains a finely granular water- insoluble inorganic powder and/or a polyamine compound with 5,000 or higher weight average molecular weight and has at least 25 g/g of dispersion/absorption magnification to 0.9 wt.% sodium chloride aqueous solution after 60 minutes from starting absorption under a load of 20 g/cm2 (1.96 kPa). The dispersion/ absorption index can be measured using a measurement apparatus to be employed for measuring the dispersion/absorption magnification by measuring the weight of the physiological salt solution 12 being absorbed in the absorbent composition with the lapse of time for 60 minutes from the time when a supporting cylinder 9 is put on a sheet 8.
