The teachings of the present invention are directed to a liquid pharmaceutical formulation of furosemide wherein the pharmaceutical formulation comprises a molar excess of tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane relative to furosemide and has a pH in the range of 7 to 8.5 and a pH of about 50 mM (mM) tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane.
